Meet Ted Carlson: The Engineering Intern
Environmental Tillage Systems (ETS) welcomes Ted Carlson to the team as the 2023 engineering intern. Ted just completed his third year at South Dakota State University, where he studied agricultural engineering. He is originally from Janesville, Minnesota.
“I chose this internship because I wanted to learn what working for a smaller agricultural manufacturer is like. I have previously had internships with a larger agricultural manufacturer in test and validation and decided to learn more about how smaller companies in the agricultural industry operate,” said Ted. “I thought an internship at ETS would be a great opportunity for me to learn more about real-world engineering while working with a smaller team of engineers.”
“I look forward to learning how to use CAD better to update existing parts and prints, as well as being able to design and test new parts throughout the summer. I am excited to be a part of this team and look forward to learning from everyone at ETS and completing many projects throughout my internship.”

“We look forward to working with and mentoring Ted this summer. ETS Engineering very much enjoys helping interns by opening their eyes to the unique challenges an engineering department faces in a small company. We hope to inspire them to stay in the engineering field and to seek a career in engineering moving forward.” -Chris Self.
Throughout the summer, Ted will have a chance to work on updating existing parts and designing new prototype parts in SolidWorks, performing engineering change orders (ECOs), and becoming familiar with Epicor.
Ted enjoys hunting, fishing, raising poultry, and attending antique tractor shows outside the engineering office. He has been involved in FarmHouse Fraternity and Quarter Scale Tractor throughout college and is an active member of the Sons of American Legion post 311 outside of college.
