Fall Nitrogen

Members of the ETS team are frequent guests on the Ag Ph. D. Radio show.  The following episode is related to the topic of Fall Nitrogen.

Fall moisture is a topic many growers ask about. Eric Moore shares what he tells farmers who are worried about creating fall strips, “Make sure the soil conditions are right”. If the conditions are too wet don’t make a strip to prevent soil damage. Next, nutrient placement is important. If soils are light placing nutrients deep will not be successful as they will not hold the nutrients. However, if the soil pH is right deep nutrient placement can be a benefit, but it is all a farm to farm decision. Eric says that if nitrogen is applied in the fall there is potential for loss and so he recommends that a nitrogen stabilizer is also used.
